An in-depth interview with Luca ‘GERTU’ Lonut, a player providing a spin on the scene from the Academy prospective.
First, an introduction, who are you and who do you play for?
I am Luca "GERTU" Lonut and I'm playing for team Borsec, a Romanian team that I formed up with some friends 3 or 4 months ago.
Nice to meet you Luca. From your personal standpoint, how do you see the current state of the Call of Duty 4 community as a whole and how do you think it could be improved?
Well I think that people should get more serious in game and out, Less stupid jokes and just play for their targets. Oh and about those channels, They did such a bad thing by moving start to academy, They would like to see us playing more cybergamer as I can see.
Less flame, more game?
Of course. Also pracs are for fixing tactics and other things, I actually hate how people are saying OH TIMEOUT WHY? Cause we can and want to get more rounds ofc! There are so many teams in academy that are saying this, I think a real team always calls a time-out to see where's the mistake, what they are actually doing wrong.
What is your opinion on the proposed ideas behind the new promod? What is your view on a mod without red dots?
I think it will be harder without red dots. Communication will be tested more.
Do you have any personal views on how to better the game itself?
cod.start channel should be made once again so new teams can practice there, the admins should kick those flamers from any channels. People should play cybergamer more as clanbase is dying. People should be always serious, respectful and so on (good manners). I think that the game can't be made better without people giving their word cause you know we are all playing the game so we should talk if it should be changed or something added.
More people power?
Yes.
The Top of the game is starting to look very exciting again, what with the new CyberGamer Invite and Main leagues finally getting underway; and with events such as the Corsair Cup round the corner, the game seems to have found some financial support once again. How do you see this progress and motivation for an up and coming team like yourselves?
Yeah, I saw there are a lot of such competitions with prize money, it's a really good thing for the scene. I've always wanted to go far with this game, I'm a very ambitious and motivated player, I play only to win and I put my soul in this game. We need to practice more and more to get far, but still we aren't in a hurry, we are waiting our moment, cause this year I got some exams and so on.
Would you like to tell us what online leagues and events you guys have played or plan or playing?
We played in so many leagues and cups, we are planning to play cybergamer and more cups. We won’t be 100% active until I finish my school work but we are planning to get an organization as our next step.
Many players still consider LAN Events as the ultimate COD4 experience and true test of ability. Any plans for LAN?
I think that everybody can get very good online results, but at lan is so MUCH DIFFERENT cause there you are playing and you meet so many people. And at lan you see the actual SKILL. As I said we can't go to lans this year cause I’ve got some exams but we plan to attend as soon as we can.
How does a team such as yours prepare for important games/cups/league matches? Do you have a special or unique approach to you strats and teamplay?
Uhm, we don't PREPARE for any match (OFC WE GOT STRATS), We are just being serious when needed, communication is always a must, everything that you are doing you should tell your mate(s), we do have a vision of the game so we can see what is going on, If we don't see the mistake we just call a time-out and talk about it, Ofc we are having fun when it's the time for it, We’re not THAT serious. We are just playing and trying our best to win, We have to work out and play 2 maps still and then we can get better results.
What would you say were the best and worst aspects of your team’s play style? Where do you need to improve?
We are communicating much better than we use to. Sometimes our worst aspect I think that we are not playing serious from the beginning, making bad jokes or whatever. I also think that when we are playing well we could beat almost any team on crossfire.
What is your opinion of the map Cluster?
Played it once and I think it's a good map. Nothing more to say.
Would you like to see more custom maps in rotation?
1 more map should be awesome but it should be made carefully over time and people should be allowed to give their views on it and everything will be just fine.
Do you have any further comments you would like to make about the game, the community, anything at all?
BE SERIOUS, BE AMBITIOUS, NEVER GIVE UP, FIGHT FOR YOUR GOALS AND BE IN FOR A LAUGH!
Thanks Luca!
