I'm sure you're familiar with it. It's a saying my Grandmother always uses. Bless her heart. When something gets to a point when it is nearly unbearable. And that is exactly what I've been thinking to myself recently, while I struggle through page after page of complete nonsense, in the forum of a community site I once truly enjoyed.
I started out playing CoD4 casually, and still do to this day. I also love watching the game on a high competitive level, and when I once was offered the opportunity to be the manager of Denmark's best team in 2008, I couldn't say no. Who here would pass up on a free trip to the Antwerp eSport Festival, to support your country's very best team. Certainly not me. And what a great trip it was, even if we did got knocked out in the second group stage.
Fast forward to the time when we had one of the many stalemates in our community's history. Another mod war, another great debate on what needs to be changed, and what's missing. I decided that unity was the best way to go forward, so I founded The CoD Alliance, and while our efforts may have been a lot less then everyone expected, I know that we made a small difference during that time. We encouraged cooperation amongst the top teams, which resulted in the selection of a mod going forward, and this also resulted in the implementation of some neat little features, from what was supposed to be a competitors mod. Features that many people take for granted today, like our beloved shoutcaster overlay.
And here we are again. At a time where we need to be unified, people are aiming their frustration to the one organization who's sole purpose is to improve our very own community. "You're not doing enough". "You're doing it wrong". "You're corrupt". Let me ask you this. Do you honestly think that the people involved, sacrifice their free time on deliberately making things worse for everyone? People who you know, have played against and have met at LAN? Is it really one big conspiracy to make things harder for us all? To eventually kill the scene, and end competition for the game we all love?
While nobody will argue that things could have and can be done differently and more efficiently, certain individuals are actually trying to improve the situation – whether you like to admit it or not. They're not being paid. They don't get material or monetary rewards. They do it because they love the game, and want to make a difference. And I encourage every single one of you to do the same or, as the great Eddy Murphy once said; "...have a coke and a smile and shut the **** up".
We've been handed this website on a silver plate. Let's not take it for granted. Let us embrace the opportunity and work together. Let us encourage the people who try to make a difference. You know who I'm talking about. The tomzki's, the Bcrbo's, the Mennace's and the nreo's of our community. This website offers a lot of the features that we've desperately been asking for, for so long. Let's utilize them and improve the community as a whole.
Most importantly, don't spoil it for people who are trying to make a difference. Enough of the negative bullshit. If you get off on trolling and flaming others, there are other websites where you can continue doing just that. But don't bring your negative agenda here. This site offers an alternative to that. Don't let this opportunity go to waste.
